Fayetteville High School AP Environmental Science students took a hands on approach to learning during their sustainable urbanization unit. 🌱

As part of the lesson, students worked in teams to design and build their own urban development plans using LEGO bricks. Each team member took on a specific role and worked together to balance important real world factors such as affordable housing, city revenue, environmental impact, and developer return on investment.

This interactive activity gave students a deeper understanding of the challenges and decision making involved in creating sustainable, thriving communities.💜

They made it! FPS Superintendent, Dr. John Mulford, and FPS School Board President, Tim Hudson, climbed the Nabholz crane to support our FHS Student Council’s annual Homeless Vigil. They were also joined in the climb by Steve Flickinger, Director of Physical Plant and School Services. Thanks to the generosity of our community, the vigil has raised nearly $28,000 to help those in need.

The online portal will remain open through December 31 for anyone who wants to make an end of the tax year donation. We are so proud of everyone who contributed and joined us in making a difference! 💜

As part of another student-led sustainability effort, AP Environmental Science students from Fayetteville High School spent the weekend working on two hands-on projects.

In the FHS courtyard, Stephanie Jordan, FPS Garden Coordinator, and Tracy King, AP Environmental Science Teacher, guided students as they continued the “No Mow” project. They prepared an area that will be planted with native species to support butterfly and bee populations, removing sections of sod to create a new space for the expanding pollinator garden.

Across town, Clay Morton, AP Environmental Science Teacher, led another group of students in removing invasive plant species around McNair. This project is a collaboration with the City of Fayetteville’s Urban Forester, John Scott, who has provided replacement plants, educational signage, and support with brush removal.
