Get ready to dive in, because the Fayetteville High School and Arkansas Game and Fish Commission greenhouse management class are making waves!
This year marks another exciting collaboration with our region's fisheries biologist, Jonathan Stein. FHS students are hard at work utilizing the school's greenhouses to grow native aquatic plants, all in an effort to improve fish habitats right here in Northwest Arkansas.
Last year, students successfully stocked Bob Kidd Lake with these plants, and this year, their green thumbs are benefiting Beaver Lake. Our students will get the unique opportunity to head out to the lake and place the plants themselves, directly contributing to a healthier ecosystem.
Stay tuned for updates on this awesome project!

The Fayetteville High School Environmental Science classes recently established a “no mow” zone in the FHS courtyard which supports biodiversity and encourages pollinators and native plants to thrive. Right now the courtyard is buzzing with late summer life! Flowers are blooming, bees are busy, and caterpillars are preparing for their transformation. 🦋
The Family and Consumer Science classroom opens onto the courtyard, where students learn to grow, harvest, and cook vegetables in class as part of the curriculum.🍅
And the best part is we are not done! We will be expanding our schoolyard habitat by adding additional tiers of plant beds for native species in the years to come!💜
