Congratulations to @FayettevilleHS student, Karen Perez, for being selected to represent Arkansas as a delegate to the 2020 World Food Prize Global Youth (virtual) Institute. In the 2019-2020 school year Karen researched a critical global challenge, wrote a 5 page paper and presented her research in a short speech to local leaders and experts. While attending the state contest at the University of Arkansas she also participated in hands-on activities, and explored ways to make a difference in Arkansas and around the world working to end hunger and poverty and improve food security. Because of this selection, Karen will also be eligible to apply for the Borlaug-Ruan International internship upon high school graduation and throughout college. This internship is an all-expenses-paid, eight-week hands-on experience for students to work with world-renowned scientists and policymakers at leading research centers in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. Borlaug-Ruan Interns get a firsthand view of pressing food security and nutritional problems in poverty-stricken areas and take part in groundbreaking research. We are proud of Karen and are excited for the future opportunities this will bring.
